Taco Time in Providence

by George L. Ortiz, Jr.

It’s September and your first week of school. Your meal plan is enough for your day-to-day (almost), but you are in the mecca of fine dining. That’s right…Rhode Island baby. Everything is at your disposal whether you live on campus or off. Rhode Island is rich in culture and accessibility. You can walk down the streets of Providence and pass Xaco Tacos on Richmond, where they hand-make their tortillas daily. And if you go between 2 and 5 pm, you can feast on $2 tacos. If that’s too spicy for you, prance to Weybosset, where you will find the Pizza Queen. They offer two slices and a soda for $5 daily during lunch. This is just the beginning of the fun we will have together. A taste, if you will.

This blog will do more than just point you in the right direction. Every post will be a guided tour of delicacies to make your palate happy. Remember, I will try as much as possible to keep this uber-affordable. There will be some curveballs as I will introduce some pricier places. My favorite food is Puerto Rican, and I have lived worldwide. So my tastes range from the typical to the rare. I would love to award a couple of gift cards to the first ten people commenting on their favorite home restaurants – please provide the link.
